Game Designer

Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • designing core game features in a AAA console game. Examples include:
    -multi-character combat including stand-alone and linked movesets,
    -scripting animations and behaviors,
    -environmental interactions,
    -special weapon mechanics,
    -unique player abilities,
  • creating detailed design documentation and working closely with programmers, artists, animators, sound designers and level designers to implement game features,
  • guiding the design of a feature throughout implementation, iteration, and polish, ensuring it meets the quality standard and vision for the product,
  • tuning & balancing systems to meet the quality and accessibility goals of the design, and hold up under the stress of competitive gameplay,
  • taking over the design for existing features when necessary, and driving them throughout development,
  • analyzing feedback and data from play-tests and iterating the design,
  • coordinating with QA and providing test specifications,
  • bringing new and innovative ideas to the project in the area of gameplay,
  • understand and contribute to the company's vision and goals,
  • work cross functionally to accomplish launch and marketing efforts,
  • remaining current on industry trends and techniques in game design.

Specific Requirements:

  • in-depth knowledge of the casual or multiplayer/online games,
  • desire and aptitude to adapt quickly to a rapidly changing, fast-paced creative environment,
  • understanding of the technical aspects of product development and their relationships to game design,
  • strong organizational skills: ability to drive a feature from concept to design documentation to implementation to iteration and polish,
  • thorough knowledge of game mechanics,
  • communication of design to the rest of the development team,
  • must have knowledge of competitive products and various gameplay genres, as well as a personal understanding of video game fun,
  • strong knowledge of game balancing.

General Requirements:

  • 5 years of design experience in the gaming Industry,
  • must have shipped at least 2 AAA games,
  • familiarity with user experience/community management is a plus,
  • personality to handle responsibility, collaborate and excel in small team environment,
  • a mature, professional attitude and work ethic, you need to be able to champion your ideas, yet accept and value the ideas of others,
  • exceptional verbal and written communication; ability to sell production staff on visions.
